Running Eligibility FAQ

01
Is 1.6 km in 6 minutes good for Indian Army?

No. As per official Indian Army standards for Agniveer/GD, you must finish within 5:45 minutes to pass. 6 minutes will lead to disqualification.

02
What is the 5km time limit for SSC GD?

The maximum time allowed for male candidates in SSC GD is 24 minutes. For female candidates, the standard is 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes.

03
How many marks are given for 1.6 km in the Indian Army?

For the Agniveer GD/Technical category, the 1.6 km run is out of 60 marks. Finishing in Group-I (under 5:30) earns you a full 60 marks, while Group-II (5:31 to 5:45) earns you 48 marks. These marks are crucial for the final merit list.

04
What is the 1.6 km running time for female candidates?

For female candidates in SSC GD and Delhi Police, the standard is usually 1.6 km in 8 minutes and 30 seconds. For the Indian Army (Women Military Police), the qualifying time is 7:30 mins for Group-I and 8:00 mins for Group-II.

05
Can I improve my running time from 6:30 to 5:30 in one month?

Yes, but it requires structured Interval Training. Instead of just running long distances, practice 400-meter sprints (4-6 rounds) with 90-second breaks. At Hind Defence Academy, we've seen students shave off 40-50 seconds in 30 days using professional track techniques.

06
Should I run barefoot or with shoes on the recruitment ground?

Most Indian Army recruitment grounds are dirt tracks. If you have practiced barefoot, you can do it, but lightweight running shoes (Spikes or SEGA) are recommended to prevent injury from small stones and to provide better grip during sharp turns.

07
What is the 'Long Slow Distance' (LSD) method mentioned in the calculator?

LSD involves running at a slow, conversational pace for 7-10 km. This builds your aerobic base and strengthens your heart. If you only run fast, you will "burn out" quickly. LSD is the foundation that allows you to run a fast 1.6 km or 5 km.
