Clearing the written exam is not enough. Every year, thousands of defence aspirants are declared Temporary Unfit at SSB and medical boards due to incorrect height-weight or BMI calculation.
This Defence Height Weight & BMI Calculator checks your medical fitness strictly as per official DGMS standards followed by the Indian Armed Forces. Unlike civilian BMI calculators, defence medical boards follow age-specific and gender-specific height-weight charts with a mandatory ±10% variation rule.

Unlike civilian BMI, defence standards allow more weight as you age. Our tool identifies your exact bracket as per the latest 2026 notifications.
Candidates are fit if within ±10% of the chart weight. Exceeding this leads to "Temporary Unfitness" at SSB and Medical Boards.
Weight issues are in the top 5 rejection reasons at SSB. Proper calculation helps in targeted physical training before your attempt.
Common questions related to defence medical standards and weight eligibility.
The DGMS (Directorate General Medical Services) provides an ideal weight for every height. However, they allow a margin of 10% on both sides to account for muscle mass and bone density. This tool calculates that margin automatically.
Not necessarily. While 25 is the civilian cutoff for "Overweight," the Armed Forces look at the height-weight chart for your specific age. If your weight falls within the 10% margin of that chart, you are medically fit.
If you are declared "Temporary Unfit" due to weight, you are usually given 42 days to appeal and bring your weight within the required limits. However, it's always better to be within limits before the first medical exam.
